The elevator pitch:

The Count of Monte Cristo meets Tom Swift.

Or, twentysomething nobleman feels strong sense of both noblesse oblige and vengeance. Percy is a fairly quiet man who can take a bit to open up - but once you're acquainted, he's a dry wit with a fearsome streak of pragmatism. He's got an engineer's brain and a blacksmith's skills, which he puts towards tinkering with firearms and other machines.

And he kind of hates himself, but don't worry about that! It's probably normal and healthy. 🙃

Canon familiarity:

I've seen the entirety of the cartoon, have read the Dark Horse comics, and have listened to much (but quite all) of the original campaign.

I'm unconcerned with spoilers related to this canon - you can assume that I broadly know everything that happens with Percy and his friends, so feel free to reference whatever you like.

Please note that I have much less familiarity with other Critical Role campaigns. I'm happy to play with characters from the Mighty Nein or Bells Hells, but I know nothing about them; for our purposes, please treat me like I'm canonblind.

Approach:

For Percy, I tend to find the cartoon more effective in terms of narrative weight and plotting choices, and the original campaign more effective in terms of characterization and character interaction. I default to the cartoon in terms of "this happens, then that happens" kinds of things but use both sources for character and relationship beats.

I tend to treat this canon similarly to superhero comics - I take what I like and leave the rest. If you ever have a question about what that looks like for a specific scenario, please feel free to ask!

Preferred canonpoints:

(Listed chronologically, because I like them all equally.)

• Post-torture, the years before he meets Vox Machina, early adventures together
• Post-season-1, reckoning with the new shape of his life with his ties to Whitestone restored
• Post-season-3, recovering from his death
• Nebulously "whenever" - what I think of as comic-book time, just kind of vibing as Vox Machina

AU possibilities:

Percy's storyline breaks down to "boy loses family violently, vows revenge, likes guns" in a way that translates well to AUing him into other settings. I'm not interested in mundane, now-everyone's-normal-people AUs, but I'm happy to AU him into non-D&D-esque settings where he can still be a weird little freak. (To give you an idea, he translated weirdly well into the world of The Godfather.) So if you're like, this sounds fun, but unfortunately my character's from a cyberpunk dystopia or smth, that's not necessarily a barrier to interaction.

If you're interested in AUing your character into his setting, I'm also happy to help with that! Just let me know.

Shipping:

Fave: Vex
Yes: Crosscanon, Vax, Pike, Tary
Maybe: Fucked-up shit with Delilah or Ripley
No: Other Vox Machina members, Cassandra

If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, and I'll let you know if I think a vibe will work!
