But given the choice...she's not wrong. She's getting closer to her ultimate goal, and Percy's thighs tense beneath her in anticipation. He'll take petty mockery from his wife - still breathtaking to think, his wife - if her kisses move closer to the center of his pelvis.
Her mouth doesn't immediately move to see if she's right, but her hand does. Her fingers find his shaft, light and teasing as they explore. She's in no particular hurry, enjoying each moment for what it is: a gift. She came so close to losing him and losing these opportunities to love him.
Never again. If that miserable time taught her anything, it's to appreciate the man she loves at any given opportunity.
The air in his lungs feels heavy and hot - his whole body does, but especially his chest - as she finally, finally touches him. His skin's tingling with her attention, his prick aching for her hand to wrap around it in earnest. That she doesn't isn't all that maddening, though; he'd like tonight to go on as long as they can make it last.
This is, after all, as close as they're getting to a wedding night. Vex deserves something spectacular.
"You, ah -" Percy swallows, trying to rally his voice. He touches her shoulder, as though to ground himself in her. "You haven't lost it."
A belated wedding night is all good and well in her books. A few days ago he might not have had the strength--especially not on the day they did elope, with how long he was on his feet. This is already an excellent use of their time and energy.
"Really? I haven't even done anything to you yet," she points out with far too wide of a smile. She knows what she's doing to him by taking her time. "But absence makes the anticipation grow stronger, I suppose."
"Oh, but you have," he answers, breathless. And she knows it, too, the minx - she's smiling much too brightly not to be in on the joke here. "You just haven't done enough."
They're both in on it; he's smiling down at her, pink-cheeked and utterly indulgent as he touches the ridge of one of her ears, drawing his fingers along the fine line of it. Slow and steady, it turns out, has its own appeal. They might not be able to recreate the wild frenzy of their first encounters, at the moment, but right now, he doesn't want to. Not when the alternative feels like this.
The lightest of touches from him tickles, and Vex laughs, ducking her head away from that touch and nipping at his hip. Her fingers stroke him with a similar light touch, because whatever he'd like to do she can do several times over. Some friendly retaliation despite the fact that she started this.
"I do want this to last for more than five minutes," she teases, and the teasing touch is at odds with her words. She doesn't mean to drive him towards any edge just for him to finish the moment she has her lips around him.
Oh, but he's so fun to drive a little bit crazy. He can take it.
"I do, too," he sighs, and he's genuinely hopeful that he'll have the wherewithal to withstand foreplay. Endurance might not be among his virtues right now, but his determination remains - and besides. If it took an effort to get to this point, surely he's unlikely to spill himself at the drop of a hat. "I've hardly had a chance to touch you."
There's a smile tugging at his mouth as he says it. He expects she'll have mercy on him eventually, and he'll make that mercy worth her while, and in the meantime, she'll torture her by putting her mouth everywhere besides the place he'd like to feel it. In revenge, he reaches for her ear again, running his now-uncallused fingertips over it, behind it, along her jaw...anywhere he can reach that seems likely to arouse a reaction.
"That's because you can't be trusted to not get carried away, dear," she points out. "You listen better once you're spent."
Vex has no issue calling him out on that when it's the truth. Whether she'll give in is questionable, but there's always tomorrow, either way. And the day after that, and all the ones that follow. They have that luxury, now.
But she does lean into his touch, cheeks rosy as she looks at him for a long moment.
"I hope you're ready for a lifetime of this treatment."
Maybe she's doing a little more because he's still on the mend, but she thinks she'll always want to please him.
This time, when he sighs, it's with a sort of put-upon annoyance he suspects (hopes) they both know is just playacting. Limits are frustrating - but Vex is right, unfortunately. If he had his druthers, he'd want to do far more than lie back and let her devour him, and he'd probably regret it.
(He's aiming for more than just satisfaction tonight, after all. Tomorrow's hour in the workshop depends on his ability to get out of bed without a worried frown pinching Vex's brow.)
"A lifetime of you," he corrects, his smile returning without hesitation. It doesn't have to be this treatment, after all - any fondness from her is bound to please. Percy catches her chin lightly in his hand, thumb moving over her lower lip. "I hope, and please don't take this the wrong way, but I hope I never get used to it. Every time I look at you, I want to remember how lucky I am."
